»Literature on the Island« has been held up to five times a year at Café Ada in Wuppertal since 2014. »Ada« is Turkish and means »island«.
The guests in "Literature on the Island" are well-known authors from Germany and abroad. They read from their books, talk about their work, bring foreign texts or music that are important to them. After a break, the topics of the evening can be deepened with photos, music, a film or in free conversation. Once a year there is an issue with a regional author.
The hosts are the theater director, singer and author Torsten Krug and – since November 2018 – the freelance dramaturge Dr. Uta Atzpodien (to date: the musician Katrina Schulz from Cologne). The mentor of the event is the Wuppertal writer and former publishing director Hermann Schulz.
The basic idea of the event, which is inspired by the literature salons in Cologne, Berlin or Essen, but also by the live music format "tvnoir", is the high-quality, entertaining, and above all personal encounter with the guest as well as the individual handling of literature and stories. The Café Ada in Wuppertal offers the perfect place for the desired living room atmosphere and all conceivable deviations from a normal reading.
